I've always been interested in geneology and ancient history, but a few years ago, I started really appreciating the world at the turn of the twentieth century, when the material world we live in today, really started to take shape. I decided that I wanted to write an adventure story for young readers and I chose my mother's mother's father Benjamin Otis Whitten as the hero of this tale. He was born in 1886 and was just coming of age at the turn of the century. It is a story, not based in any actual events, but his name and his grandparents' names are real, as well as him being from Pendelton, SC. The story is set in the piedmont of SC, and giving my penchant for stories about supernatural things, this story falls into that kind of magical history.
